International observers officially reported that the electoral contest took place under inequitable conditions.
On Wednesday, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) denounced the irregularities that affected the outcome of the second round of the presidential elections in Ecuador, which took place on April 13.

According to the National Electoral Council (CNE), the results of this political process were favorable to President Daniel Noboa, who defeated Citizen Revolution candidate Luisa Gonzalez. The following is the statement issued by ALBA-TCP.
“Following the presidential election in the Republic of Ecuador held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, the member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) are closely and deeply concerned about the unfolding events, particularly the numerous irregularities that affected the outcome of the elections in Ecuador and the resulting accusations of fraud in the process—an unprecedented occurrence in the country.
The elections took place under a state of emergency declared 24 hours before the vote, which was enforced specifically in provinces where the Ecuadorian opposition has historically enjoyed strong popular support.
The intimidating military presence at polling stations and electoral centers was evident and extended throughout the country. Some international monitors and observers reported feeling pressured by official authorities.
Amid this repressive atmosphere, arbitrary detentions were reported in the days and hours leading up to the election, accompanied by open persecution of leaders of the Ecuadorian opposition.
Further escalating tensions, the government hired a notorious American mercenary and his team—experts in military and psychological violence—with the aim of further intimidating the electorate.
International observers officially reported that the electoral contest took place under inequitable conditions, including the improper use of state institutions and resources, as well as last-minute changes to crucial organizational rules, all of which generated mistrust and uncertainty around the electoral process.
Public opinion polls conducted prior to the election, as well as most exit polls carried out during election day, pointed to a tight race and forecasted a possible victory for the Citizen Revolution candidate Luisa Gonzalez, an outcome that, surprisingly, was not reflected in the official results presented, which, on the contrary, appear unsustainable.
The gravity of the events has led the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America to firmly denounce before the peoples of the world and the international community what has taken place in Ecuador’s electoral process.”
